Methods to control land degradation in the Himalayan regions:

1. Contour Ploughing - Ploughing along the contour lines can decelerate the flow of water down the slopes.
2. Terrace cultivation steps can be cut on the slopes making terraces.
3. Strip Cropping - Large fields can be divided into strips , strips of grass are left to grow between the crops.
4. Shelter Belt - planning lines of trees to create shelter also helps in breaking up of the force of wind. These shelter belts  have contributed significantly to the stabilization of sand dunes and in stabilizing the desert in western India.
