Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial $ x^2 + 6x + 8 $

Polynomials (10)

Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial $ x^2 + 6x + 8 $ and verify the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients.

Answer

$$ x^2 + 6x + 8 = (x + 4)( x + 2) $$

Zeroes are -4, -2

Sum of zeroes

$$ –4 + (–2) = –6 = \frac{-6}{1} =\frac{\text{- Coeff. of x}}{\text{Coeff. of } x^2} $$

Product of zeroes

$$ (-4)(-2) = 8 =  \frac{8}{1} = \frac{\text{Constant term}}{\text{Coeff. of } x^2} $$
